In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures Mrs. Eddy asks: "Which of these two theories concerning man are you ready to accept? One is the mortal testimony, changing, dying, unreal. The other is the eternal and real evidence, bearing Truth's signet, its lap piled high with immortal fruits." How grateful I am that I have accepted the second theory! And how grateful I am for the individual who, years ago, saw my need and told me about Christian Science.
Approximately six years after I began the study of Christian Science, I moved to Boston, where I was accepted for employment at The Mother Church. This employment continued for about forty years—years filled with joy, and gratitude for steps of progress. When the time came to leave, it seemed a good idea to move to another area. Through the years I had acquired a love for Vermont with its beautiful green mountains, hills, and valleys. Also, my sister had settled there some years before.
As I thought about this possible move, I recalled the experience of moving to Boston over forty years before. I had found an apartment, but at times I was unhappy and so had moved. But the unhappiness had moved with me. After praying when struggles came, and with occasional help from a Christian Science practitioner, I caught a glimpse of the true meaning of home. I saw that home is not just a physical structure; rather it is a form of thought. It is the consciousness of Love's, God's, presence. There, as God's image, I knew I would always be sheltered and protected, surrounded by beauty, order, and peace.
