Know that you know

From the February 1993 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A number of years ago my husband took a new job and we moved to a city in a different part of the country. During the first week we were there, I was familiar with only one way to his office—the way from our home. One day that week I needed to do some errands and then pick him up after work. After I finished my shopping, I thought I could easily find his office from where I was because I was only a few miles west of the road I already knew. However, as I proceeded, I saw no signs that assured me I was nearing my destination. The thought that I was lost and might be late picking him up prompted me to turn the car around, retrace my way to our home, and take the road I knew.

Some time later, when I had learned more about the city, I realized that at the very point I turned back, I was indeed close to his office. Practically speaking, I was already there and didn't know it!

Many times this small incident has been instructive for me when working out a problem through prayer. Again and again my experience as a Christian Scientist has shown me that when I have felt confused and far from a healing solution and then turned humbly to God, I have invariably found His Christ, Truth, present to heal. You might say that prayer has enabled me to know that I do know the truth of God and man that heals, even in the face of evidence to the contrary. Mentally holding our ground that God, good, alone governs man, we find more consistent spiritual growth in our human experience.
