It was so evident at the meetings—the loving support that employees at The Mother Church receive from their spouses in the work they do!
When an invitation was extended to spouses of employees to attend one of two Saturday morning meetings focused on Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, they accepted, prepared, and came (some of them from a considerable distance). For ... one meeting they came in spite of a prediction that the winter snowstorm of 1993 was on its way that very day. Though the snowflakes began to fall and the wind to blow during the meeting, these participants seemed not to notice, so engrossed were they in devoting their thought to the Christian Science textbook and its availability to mankind. They were "faithful over a few things,"Matt. 25:21. and the meeting was over in time for them to get home before the storm reached its peak.
The spouses' meetings were very similar to the employees' meetings focusing on Science and Health, which were held from January through May 1993 (see the May Journal). In addition, the spouses devoted considerable thought and discussion to concrete steps that might be taken in the New England area—individually, in branch churches, and in college organizations—to make the textbook more readily known and available to their neighbors. Thoughtful and expansive ideas emerged. And, as in each of the focus meetings, participants were awakened to realize that the work begins with individuals—with themselves—and they wasted no time in getting started.
