We read in Galatians: "Because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ" (4:6, 7).
The words child and heir have a special meaning for me, but that was not always the case. When I was a girl in Berlin, I was introduced to Christian Science following World War II by an aunt who was a Christian Science practitioner. I found the fruits of this religion wonderful, and started studying the Christian Science Bible Lesson regularly.
But I was still far from understanding the deeper sense of Christian Science. One thing shocked me; I didn't understand the statements that man is perfect, because all over the world there were enough examples of imperfection. It also was hard to understand the Bible's demand to be humble, together with the need to claim perfection. But I was young, things were going well, and so I didn't think much further about it.
