My mother passed on suddenly...

From the November 1995 issue of The Christian Science Journal

My mother passed on suddenly, just as I was starting to appreciate her. I reached out to God, seeking for a way of life that I could follow to show my gratitude to her. I heard, as clearly as if it had been spoken, the words Christian Science. I knew of a woman who was a Christian Scientist, and the next day when I saw her I told her I was interested in knowing more about her religion. She helped me to get a copy of Science and Health, and I started to read it at once. I was on my way in a spiritual journey.

I was not seeking physical healing, but rather the meaning of life. One of the passages in the textbook makes this provocative point: "The prophylactic and therapeutic (that is, the preventive and curative) arts belong emphatically to Christian Science, as would be readily seen, if psychology, or the Science of Spirit, God, was understood" (p. 369). I found that my study resulted, not only in proofs of this curative aspect, but more impressively to me, proofs of the preventive. During many years of study, I did not need medical help of any kind, because Christian Science would always heal me.

Christian Science has taught me to pray by starting with God, sticking with God, and finishing with God, and this has always provided answers. Understanding that healing is a demonstration of the spiritual perfection that man has always had has enabled me to heal.
