In prayer we feel a "kindling" of the heart by Christ, Truth. As we reach out to God, divine Love, and realize some measure of His glory, our hearts burn with gratitude and joy. It's like coming home to our natural relation to God as His offspring. We feel the most wonderful oneness with our divine Father-Mother God. Whether our prayer is simply a humble right desire, a heartfelt petition for grace, inspired reasoning, or praise, when it is permeated with love for God and His creation and represents a diligent effort to express His nature, that prayer is blessed.
In its initial stages, prayer can bring comforting assurance of God's tender love and care. As our prayer progresses, expressing delighted praise and gratitude for the absolute perfection of God and His spiritual reflection, man, we're responding to the touch of Christ. This lifts human thinking right out of the limits of a supposed selfhood apart from God into the spiritual consciousness that manifests divine Mind itself.
Such holy consciousness, grasping something of the allness of infinite Spirit, God, and of man's true nature as Spirit's reflection, strips all credibility from the false, material sense of things, from the so-called laws and conditions of matter. The truth realized through spiritual understanding dissolves ignorant, mortal delusion and brings divine reality to light. This is seen in healing. In Science and Health Mary Baker Eddy writes, "It is our ignorance of God, the divine Principle, which produces apparent discord, and the right understanding of Him restores harmony."
