Each step in His care

From the November 1995 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Have you ever felt stalled? Sometimes it's not clear what steps to take in solving a problem. Sometimes, even though lots of steps have been taken, they don't appear to lead anywhere. But if a solution seems to elude us, we might ask ourselves if we can ever really be in a situation where God's provision for us isn't just at hand.

Good may seem more possible in the future, after a pressing difficulty is resolved. But doesn't the belief that good must be postponed imply that we're distant from God, its very source? Christian Science, in harmony with the Bible, reveals that man reflects God, is His image eternally. Since this is the reality of our being, there's no point at which we can't experience His goodness; we are, in truth, at one with it. This is true even when appearances tell us nothing is happening, or that what is happening is far from encouraging.

The book of Isaiah represents God as saying, "I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure." Isa. 46:9, 10 Because God is good, the "beginning"—the eternal reality of God's creation—is good. The "end," declared from the beginning, must be equally good. Even though we appear to be working out problems by taking steps within a framework of time, we are in reality embraced in God's timeless design. His order originates and culminates in good. So we could never find ourselves in a state where His loving provision wasn't available.
