Are you cherishing the right thing?

From the December 1995 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The only creation that has ever existed is of God and is present here and now. This is the all-harmonious creation of Spirit. Because the so-called material senses, which mankind has been educated for eons to rely on, cannot perceive Spirit or spiritual things, we are daily challenged by the belief that God and His spiritual, perfect creation are absent and that we are mortal, material entities living in a discordant, material universe.

Christian Science is good news for mankind because it teaches us how to use our God–given spiritual sense to rise above materiality and see and experience the good that Spirit, divine Love, establishes as real and permanent. The fact is, we are each wholly spiritual, living in the very kingdom of heaven, in which all activity is governed harmoniously by our Maker. The study and practice of Christian Science enable anyone to begin to prove this fact.

One of the first things learned in Christian Science is to watch the quality of our thinking and to keep thought clear of false, material viewpoints. This right mental activity, this ongoing purification of thought, enables us to discern spiritually the truths that God, Mind, is constantly imparting. Often we are able to do this quite readily. But sometimes we may find ourselves faced with a discordant situation that is so opposite to our sense of what is right—of how things ought to be—that it can seem very difficult even to discern what is right and true, let alone cherish and demonstrate it.
