I am immensely thankful to my parents for bringing me up to know Christian Science. Several times my sister and I were healed by their prayers, and sometimes by those of Christian Science practitioners. As a result of being nurtured this way, I have always felt able to trust in God, whatever the need.
A strong influence in my life has been the fact of God's loving guidance and care for His children. Once, when I was ten, a friend talked me into visiting a dangerous, murky pool of water that my parents had told me to avoid. The moment we reached it, rain began to pour down. Not noticing where I was walking, I stepped on a piece of glass, cutting my foot very deeply. At that moment, we heard the rumble of a trail bike. As I limped back toward my bicycle, my friend warned me of the dangers of meeting up with trail bike riders. Then he deserted me.
I felt very alone. The rider appeared and came up next to me, offering help, which surprised me. Noticing the badly bleeding foot with concern, he surprised me further, suggesting we pray. I felt calmness and a sense of God's presence. No longer bothered by the cut, I was able to accept his offer of a ride home, feeling grateful to that God-sent bikey.
