Christian Science Reading Rooms: an open invitation to explore Science and Health

From the March 1995 issue of The Christian Science Journal

How many people who pass by a Christian Science Reading Room know that they have an open invitation to come in and explore Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, a book that makes spirituality practical and relevant to one's life? Reading Room librarians all over the world are asking themselves how they can let more members of their communities know about Science and Health, and they are considering some of the following questions: How has our Reading Room focused its efforts on bringing the message of Science and Health to the community? Has there been evidence that our neighbors are benefited by this book? What has been learned as a result of focusing on Science and Health—are we thinking about the book and the public in new ways?

Here are some of their responses:

Our Reading Room doors were open wide during our recent Open House, and to us this represented the opening of our hearts to sharing Science and Health with our community. Science and Health was our only focus during this event. Our fliers advertising the Open House listed questions such as "What is prayer?" and "Can sickness be healed?" People came to the event with questions, and we felt we were literally opening the book for them. We had various displays on Science and Health all over the Reading Room. They came in, looked at the displays, and began exploring the book and finding answers to their questions.
