Church NEWS

From the January 1996 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In a variety of languages, members and friends have been gathering in branch churches, Sunday Schools, and Reading Rooms in support of The Mother Church 1995 Annual Meeting focus on the pastor, the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.

Reports from branch churches and societies have flooded into the Office of the Clerk with new ideas and evidence that a "shaking ourselves from the dust" experience—as one church described it —has taken place in many of those branches around the world. A stirring of thought about the role of the pastor and of the Reading Room in communities is impelling branches to review their commitment to healing. Many thanks to all who have written to The Mother Church about their meetings!

A number of branches and members spoke of actively "preparing the upper room" for new seekers of the pastor's message. During meetings, individuals gave precious examples of how they found healing and are now earnest students of Christian Science, their first contact being the Christian Science Reading Room.
