Last year I was on a business trip, and was enjoying it very much. But on the fourth day I became ill with an intestinal disorder. My first thought was to turn to God for help. Right after that came thoughts about all the possible causes for this condition—had it been the food, the water? I spent the good part of the day debating possible causes and solutions.
At first I prayed to God to make my body function normally, but this was not the right approach, and so I ended up doing it again, without success, for much of the next day. So I turned my thoughts completely to God, this time praying to know whatever it was I needed to know. Clearly and immediately the thought came that if man is spiritual and not material, I was not trying to change matter from abnormal to normal; I was only praying to understand the truth of God better. The healing was quick and complete; I was able to finish the next three weeks in perfect health, and to do all my work.
About eight months later one colleague, a doctor, was warning us about the dangers of cholera, which he said is sometimes fatal when unattended. I realized I had manifested all of the symptoms that he spoke of. I was pleased to see that Christian Science is helpful in any situation, and that we needn't fear any evil.
