My family first heard about Christian Science when the family doctor recommended my grandmother try it when he was unable to cure her. Through its healing ministrations she was returned to her family a well woman.
One of the first healings I remember occurred when I was about eight years old. I was swimming in a public pool. When I dived into the pool, I hit the concrete wall and seriously injured my head. There was profuse bleeding, and the pool nurse was very concerned, but my mother and I excused ourselves, went into a quiet corner of the shower room, and prayed using "the scientific statement of being," which begins: "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all" (Science and Health, p. 468). I remember thinking deeply about each word, and I was confident that it was the truth. The bleeding stopped immediately, and during the drive home I was healed of the headache. Within a few days all soreness was also gone.
Through the years there have been many healings. A successful athletic career, including a national championship, can be attributed to the desire to glorify God, not self.
