One of the blessings of the Science of Christ is the practical help it affords parents in the challenging task of raising children. By placing our son and two daughters under the protection of God's law, we witnessed many healings, including severe cuts, chronic earaches, a nearly severed tongue, and a drug overdose that appeared as if it might be fatal. These difficulties were all met quickly and without medical intervention.

There was no fear—just a certainty of God's healing presence....

When our first child was about fifteen months old, I was in the kitchen and my wife and daughter were in the adjacent living room. My work at the sink was interrupted by an alarming cracking and popping sound, followed by a gasp from my wife and a shriek from the child. I took the few steps to the other room and saw that while my wife had been putting something in the hall closet, our daughter innocently had put a hand through the crack on the hinge side of the door. When my wife started to close the door, the hand was crushed.
