Science and Health: Its transforming influence

The blessings of receptivity

From the April 1996 issue of The Christian Science Journal

This letter writer from Virginia began by telling how during the past year she has been able to share Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy with many people, including a florist dealing with bereavement, a man whose wife had left him, a minister who had been diagnosed with a serious disease. She then related in detail this account of one man 's receptivity to her gift of the book:

During the past year I have so enjoyed looking for and taking opportunities to give away copies of Science and Health.

Recently I was on an airplane journey returning home. At one point I got up from my seat, leaving my copy of The Christian Science Journal on it. When I returned, the man in the seat next to me said he had looked at my magazine and had loved the thought of "living without fear," the words in the back cover advertisement for Science and Health. We talked about the fact that the way to truly live without fear is to know that God is always with you.
