Testimonies of Healing

For over sixty-five years, since...

From the May 1996 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For over sixty-five years, since I was healed of peritonitis following a ruptured appendix (during which three doctors had predicted my death), I have relied entirely on Christian Science for healing. Many times an article in the Christian Science Sentinel or the Journal has helped me to find a needed healing.

I live next door to my daughter and her family, and we are one hundred miles from the nearest Christian Science church. One Sunday morning when I was home alone, the family being away for the weekend, I was walking down my concrete drive when I trod on two seed balls from our liquidambar tree. These are very hard, and my foot bent over one way as I fell very heavily the other way. Pain seemed to go through every part of my body, and for a moment I felt very alone. Just then I thought of Church, and all the prayers being offered by all churchgoers to bless and uplift everyone. (I am a member of a Christian Science branch church.) I then felt a calm and peace and no longer felt alone.

One of Mrs. Eddy's statements from Science and Health, given to me by a practitioner on a previous occasion when I needed help, came into my thought: 'As a drop of water is one with the ocean, a ray of light one with the sun, even so God and man, Father and son, are one in being" (p. 361). The Scripture reads, "For in him we live, and move, and have our being" (Acts 17:28). As I pondered these statements, in a short while I was able to get to my knees and crawl to the post of the carport, pull myself up, and go inside.
