Letters

From the May 1996 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Thank you for the report on the talk that Virginia Harris delivered at the Harvard symposium on "Spirituality & Healing in Medicine." Her remarks about "God's love and presence holding on to [her]" just after an automobile accident nineteen years ago were most helpful and comforting.

For quite some time I'd hoped that there would be a way that Christian Scientists and other members of the healing community could meet in some sort of congress about healing. People on many sides are trying to help relieve suffering. The fact that this meeting took place provides perceptible evidence of the efficacy and therefore the professionalism of spiritual healing in the mind of the healing community. Their methods may differ, but what a breakthrough in peacemaking and understanding this meeting was for everybody.

Before I became a member of The Mother Church, I graduated from medical school and went into practice. Christian Science healing came to me as a grace, because from what I'd previously experienced, I was seeking healing in an entirely new direction.
