I am extremely grateful that my parents found Christian Science. It was a prediction of total blindness that caused my mother to search for healing.
My parents discussed this situation with a family friend who was a medical doctor. He suggested that they visit Mother's cousin. He told my parents that Christian Science had healed this cousin of a long-standing ailment, and it was worth a try for Mother.
Mother and Dad did visit with the cousin. She related the truths that the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, explains about the Christ and about God's great love for all of His children, and assured them that God never punishes His reflection, man—He always blesses everyone. The next morning when Mother looked out the window she could see the spokes on the buggies going by and recognize people as they were walking. She was healed through her cousin's enthusiastic sharing of the inspiration she had gained from reading Science and Health. Mother said that after her healing she felt much like the blind man who said of Christ Jesus, "Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see" (John 9:25).
