Recognizing the role of the Christ today

From the December 1997 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It's endlessly valuable to open out our view of the Christ. There is rich meaning to be mined. Christian Science uniquely expands our perception of what the Christ is and does. And there is a vast variety of angles on this deeply spiritual subject. The Science of Christ comprehensively explains the sweep, role, and divine origin of the concept. In one place, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy says, "Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness." Science and Health, p. 332.

What of Christ Jesus? The Master was endowed with the Christ to an extent unequaled in history. We know of the Christ and we seek Christ because we're aware of Jesus' perceptions of eternal being, his love, his works and healings, his resurrection and ascension—his miracles, mistakenly so-called by those not yet appreciative of the role of the Christ as God's self-revelation to us. Promising that Christ will be with us perpetually, Christ Jesus said, "Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world." Matt. 28:20.

The Christ is the vitality, presence, and care of Life, God, made palpable and practical to human thought today as always. It is the Christ also that directs and assists human consciousness in giving place to the divine Mind, man's true and only Mind. Moreover, the Christ reveals the law of God enforcing itself, the law of God superseding all other supposed versions of law. Additionally, the Christ is the action of Love, God, operating ever-presently and guaranteeing that divine Love is expressed in love throughout all being, continuously and permanently. Furthermore, the Christ is that which prompts true, pure love to be reciprocated.
