Poems

Unselfed

From the December 1997 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Set upon by Satan to exalt himself,
our Master consented not.
His Father's honor alone
Jesus undeviatingly sought.

Would you sabotage your highest good?
Then, when the tempter says you ought
to pursue aims that end in self,
pray to put this evil out of thought.

For we are here—
like our Saviour in Truth and Love—
to serve and heal,
that God may get the glory,
and our fellowman Christlike love.
