Responding to a wider audience of seekers

From the December 1997 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Many of the individuals Christ Jesus responded to with healing love would not have been considered a typical audience to the religious leaders of his day. There was, for instance, his effective response to a centurion from the pagan nation ruling over Israel, who asked Jesus to heal his servant. It's clear from the Bible's description of this incident that the Master was joyously surprised by the Roman soldier's receptivity to his mission of healing love and salvation. The Gospel of Matthew says Jesus "marvelled" at the centurion's insight into how he healed, and then said of him, "I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel."  Matt. 8:10.

From the Office of the Publisher, the Writings of Mary Baker Eddy

Through reading Mary Baker Eddy's Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, many have found a faith—or spiritual understanding—that gives them insights similar to the conviction held by the centurion and commended by Jesus. Those already being benefited by the book in this way might ask themselves if they are sharing its healing message with the same openness to its prospective readers as Jesus evidenced in his own loving outlook. Are they as willing as the Saviour to be pleasantly surprised by the diversity of the audience receptive to Truth?
