I must first give thanks for Mary Baker Eddy...

From the April 1997 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I must first give thanks for Mary Baker Eddy, beloved Leader, Discoverer, and Founder of Christian Science. Never can I adequately acknowledge the good that has come to me and my family as a result of this dear woman's gift to the world. I'm profoundly grateful to her for the textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, for the establishment of The Mother Church and branch churches, Reading Rooms, and college organizations around the globe, for the periodicals, and for the highly-respected international newspaper, The Christian Science Monitor. As I related in an earlier testimony, my first healing was that of a birth defect, a shortened limb. Since that healing, which took place when I was less than a year old, I've had many, many additional proofs of the power of God to heal.

A painful but outwardly invisible lump in my breast dissolved. I told no one about the problem, fearing that my husband or father would insist on surgery. I had only occasional treatment from Christian Science practitioners, as I was reluctant to ask for help I could not pay for. Turning to God for my supply, however, I realized that I could do some freelance writing. This provided me with my own financial resources and, in fact, evolved into a new career. Although the complete healing took several years of daily, even hourly, prayer, when the fear of cancer, depression, and a long-buried resentment were removed from my thinking, the healing came and has been permanent.

Once when my husband and I were in a part of London unfamiliar to us, I tripped and fell very hard on the pavement. Both of us heard a crack as I landed on my knee. There were, in addition, numerous abrasions on my face, arms, and legs. Helped into a nearby shop, I earnestly turned to God, affirming my total oneness with Him and the impossibility of any separation from Him . Although still in pain and hardly able to walk, I felt a strong impulse to get up and leave the shop. Supported by my husband, I crossed the street and turned down another avenue. Suddenly my husband exclaimed, "I see why you wanted to go in this direction!" We were standing in front of a Christian Science Reading Room. Neither of us had had any idea of the location of this wonderful oasis. The librarian and my husband helped me to a desk where I could sit quietly and continue to pray. My tears of pain turned to tears of joy and gratitude for Mrs. Eddy's spiritual foresight in establishing these Reading Rooms. In less than an hour I was able to return to the hotel, walking freely. I had no more problem with my knee; the abrasions on my body healed within a few days.
