New Restoration and Renewal Program

From the April 1997 issue of The Christian Science Journal

There is growing evidence throughout the world of renewed awareness of the necessity for spirituality in human affairs—in homes and communities, in business, in health, in worship. And the fulfillment of that yearning is being actively pursued. "This age is," as Mary Baker Eddy observed in her article "Christian Science," "reaching out towards the perfect Principle of things...."Miscellaneous Writings, p. 232. Mankind's waiting is over. Passivity and resignation are changing to heartfelt seeking and finding. For The Mother Church to continue to cultivate and respond to this striving for a practical spirituality, it has become necessary to renew the facilities that support the fulfillment of the promises and prophecies members of this Church cherish.

Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health: "As a material, theoretical life-basis is found to be a misapprehension of existence, the spiritual and divine Principle of man dawns upon human thought, and leads it to 'where the young child was,'—even to the birth of a new-old idea, to the spiritual sense of being and of what Life includes. Thus the whole earth will be transformed by Truth on its pinions of light, chasing away the darkness of error."Science and Health, p. 191.

Over this past century members and friends have stepped forward to ensure that The Mother Church and all its activities have been equipped with the resources and facilities needed for the movement's progressive steps forward. At the turn of the century the church edifices were built. Thirty years later, the Publishing House was constructed. Thirty years after that, ground was broken for the new Christian Science Center buildings. Each of these appropriate steps has strengthened our Church's ability to reach more widely, to kindle hopes, to offer the truth that restores and renews lives.
