"How I study the Bible Lesson —and put it into practice"

From the September 1997 issue of The Christian Science Journal

This feature gives readers an opportunity to share with one another helpful approaches to their study of the Bible Lessons published in the Christian Science Quarterly, and how they put what they learn into practice in their lives. These Bible Lessons consist of references from the Bible and from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.

When is the best time to study the Bible Lessons? At any time of the day or night! The Lesson is a marvelous tool for prayer and a constant companion. Sometimes studying in the middle of the night or small hours of the morning is best of all, because it is a time of absolute peace and quiet, with no distractions. The Bible says of Christ Jesus, "And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed. "
Mark 1:35

I like to familiarize myself with the new Lesson for the week on Sunday evening. Then, at different times during Monday—beginning in the morning—I read through it slowly while writing out certain passages in my Study Edition of the Quarterly. I appreciate the plentiful space in this edition. It's important to me to complete this study/ writing process as early as possible in the week because I like to carry the Quarterly everywhere with me so that I can refer to it while traveling by bus or subway.
