God is in control

From the September 1997 issue of The Christian Science Journal

How often we'd like to see more evidence of control in our everyday lives! The parent may long to see his or her children express more poise; perhaps a young person desires a greater sense of dominion in academics or athletics; the business person may cherish more concord in the workplace. Having events and people functioning smoothly and productively is desirable and natural. Spiritually understanding the concept of control and practicing this understanding can help greatly in this direction.

We might begin by considering who actually is in control. The Bible gives us a direct answer when it states: "Thus saith the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me. I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded."
Isa. 45:11, 12 God is in control of His creation. Because God made all, God controls all. Since man and the universe are the very outcome of God, they are His reflection. And the reflection is always controlled by the original.

Christ Jesus taught that God is Spirit. Therefore His creation must be spiritual, like Spirit, and not material. Spirit's creation is composed of spiritual ideas, not material beings or things. These ideas express the qualities of God, His pure nature, and are inseparable from Him. Thus God controls all, His infinite spiritual creation.
