Restoration & Renewal

A monthly series of reports, comments, and reflections on the Restoration and Renewal Program at The Mother Church.

Making a gift of valuable spiritual substance

From the November 1998 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When a contribution is made to the Restoration and Renewal Fund, what is the actual gift? Is it the cash or securities, or the real estate? Or do these merely represent the gift? Isn't the real gift the thought and motive that impel the act of giving?

Contributors often communicate with us about the motives behind their gifts and donations. These include a renewed love for the universal mission of the Church of Christ, Scientist, a deep gratitude for personal blessings received (the foremost being spiritual healing), and a joyful sense of duty to help provide capital improvements to the facilities at The Mother Church. Others have spoken of their desire to bless future generations, and or their growing confidence in the ultimate fulfillment of Mary Baker Eddy's vision for her Church.

Joyful giving, impelled by active gratitude and love, by the desire to bless others, and by confidence in the power of God to sustain and guide all the work of the Church of Christ, Scientist, has lasting spiritual substance and incomparable worth.
