Waiting for healing?

From the November 1998 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Have you had the experience of not feeling too well and thinking, "Hopefully this pain will be gone by tomorrow"? Or, "I hope this trouble goes away soon so I can get back to my work"? If we're waiting for a healing to occur, it may be time to ask ourselves, "What am I waiting for?" God is the true provider of health and well-being, and He maintains the wholeness of His expression, man, without interruption. Realizing this, we see that there need be no waiting period for health, that right now we reflect God's omnipresent, ever-active strength and harmony.

One day when I was scheduled to make a public appearance, I became very ill. Two hours before the event I was unable to move or stand, and I could barely think. As I lay on a bed, struggling to stay conscious, a voice within asked: "What are you waiting for? Are you going to lie there until you feel well enough to get up—which could be a long time—or are you going to recognize your God-given ability to rise now?"

I remembered the statement in Science and Health "Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good."  Science and Health, p. 393 This was a reminder to me that sickness is not to be given in to. It is not of God, and it cannot assume the position or power of God. Void of divine authority, it is powerless, and needs to be viewed as such.
