Some time ago I became seriously ill with what appeared to be influenza. I had a complete healing within a couple of days. This was with the help of a Christian Science practitioner.
In that two-day period an incident occurred that has continued to enlighten my thought. The first afternoon, before I had telephoned the practitioner to ask him to pray for me, I got up from the couch where I was lying and went over to my library to a book that I had not looked at in twenty years: Christ and Christmas by Mary Baker Eddy. I had reverence for the poem, but I had seen the illustrations as overdramatic and primitive Victorian drawings.
I am a professional artist, painter, and sculptor, with an extensive fine art education. My professional experience has involved constant collaborations with renowned poets. I am a "painterpoet." Because of my background, I had always looked at Christ and Christmas with a sophisticated eye, but that day on the couch, almost delirious with fever, I saw something new.
