When I was twelve years old,...

From the December 1998 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When I was twelve years old, a dramatic healing of a plantar wart on my foot was the result of my beginning to rely on prayer for healing. I had hobbled around for about two weeks in discomfort with the wart. When it became so painful that I could not wear shoes or walk, I knew that something had to be done, and I clearly recall wanting to "see if this Christian Science stuff worked."

I retired to my room and began to read passages in the Bible that I had become familiar with in the Christian Science Sunday School. My mother called a Christian Science practitioner for treatment. After several minutes of praying and being quiet to listen to God's message for me, I fell asleep. When I woke about an hour later, there was no pain from the wart. I could walk freely. All evidence of the wart was gone in a few days. It was a convincing episode, largely because of my receptivity to learning more of God's nature and of my relationship to Him and because of the loving, effective prayer given by the practitioner.

I have also had permanent healings through prayer of damage to my eye by battery acid, earaches, fainting spells, and hair loss. Relationship and employment problems also have been healed by relying on God's omnipresence and direction. The following example of God's protection and love meant a lot to me.
