My testimony of gratitude for Christian Science is long overdue. In raising a family of three, we witnessed many healings. To encourage someone who may have had a long-standing ailment, I would like to tell of my healing of bronchial asthma. In the New York City school system, where annual physical examinations were compulsory, the asthma was diagnosed as a chronic problem when I was a child. Healing came as a result of the spiritual growth that took place over a number of years. This growth included membership in both The Mother Church and a branch church, which encouraged me to turn to God for guidance in all things.
One of the statements of Mary Baker Eddy that I recall hearing quite frequently was: "The power of Christian Science and divine Love is omnipotent. It is indeed adequate to unclasp the hold and to destroy disease, sin, and death" Science and Health, (p. 412). I was encouraged by this statement, and by studying words such as breath, inspiration, lungs, in the Concordances to the Bible and to the writings of Mary Baker Eddy. Hymns were often a comfort during difficult times, and testimonies telling of healings were always so helpful, both to hear at church and to read in the periodicals. My desire to embrace Christian Science and all it stood for became stronger to me than the belief of unhealed asthma, and I did finally find freedom. The healing has been permanent for about fifteen years now. Christian Science practitioners, who are willing to be called day or night, have been an inspiration to me.
Our two sons and a daughter attended the Christian Science Sunday School while they were growing up, and all their needs were met through what they were learning there of God's care. There were instantaneous healings of bee stings, and childhood diseases were quickly healed.
