ANNUAL MEETING OF THE MOTHER CHURCH—1998

"A great religious awakening is underway"

From the July 1998 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Owing to the renovations in the Extension of The Mother Church, this year's Annual Meeting of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, was held in nearby Symphony Hall. In that historic home of music in Boston, the prelude to the meeting was expanded to include inspirational songs sung by children from Laurel School in Brewster, Massachusetts.

To open the meeting, the outgoing President, J. Thomas Black, of Birmingham, Michigan, read passages from the Bible and from the writings of Mary Baker Eddy. After silent prayer and the audible repetition of the Lord's Prayer, the members joined in singing one of Mrs. Eddy's hymns, which opens with the words "Saw ye my Saviour?" Christian Science Hymnal, No. 300.

Mr. Black announced the church officers for the year ahead, and then introduced the new President of The Mother Church, Jon G. Harder, a Christian Science practitioner and teacher from Bristol, Rhode Island.
