So, why go to church?

From the July 1998 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Maybe you, too, have noticed this social phenomenon, as some call it—spirituality seekers everywhere, yet in many instances, dwindling church attendance.

To someone for whom spirituality and church are not only important but inseparable, this trend could be troubling. But need it be? Certainly, spiritual yearning is a good thing—the private side of Church, you could say—and every bit as God-impelled as its outward expression, including the church institution.

So, instead of ruminating on the phenomenon of increasing interest in spirituality versus lower church attendance, we might consider this question: "How can I—by my thoughts, words, and actions—help bridge this widening gap, and bless both seekers and churches alike?"
