A monthly series of reports, comments, and reflections on the Restoration and Renewal Program at The Mother Church.

Part of a larger purpose

From the September 1998 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Dear Fellow Members and Friends:

Yes, the buildings at The Mother Church in Boston need a goodly amount of renovation, and a special Fund has been established to receive designated contributions. The first inclination might be to think that this is just about bricks and mortar and money. Yet, is there a higher standpoint from which to think about this progressive activity?

Mary Baker Eddy makes this arresting statement: "Every step of progress is a step more spiritual." The People's Idea of God, p. 1 So, as you consider the opportunity to support the renovation of these buildings financially, it can also be seen as an opportunity to help renew and restore the spirit of evangelism that first gave rise to the buildings and momentum to the Cause of Christian Science.
