Several years ago I experienced a healing for which I have been deeply grateful ever since. One day while at work, I came down with all the symptoms of very severe flu. It became impossible for me to carry on with my regular activities. Seeing my difficulty, my supervisor suggested that I go home. However, I chose to stay at work because I had made an appointment to see a Christian Science practitioner nearby later that day. Since I did not want to miss this appointment, I went to lie down in the ladies' lounge.
At the appointed time I met with the practitioner. Though we discussed many of the pressing challenges confronting me, neither one of us ever mentioned the quite obvious flu symptoms. Shortly after I left the practitioner's office I realized that I was completely healed. I could hardly believe it! I hurried to the telephone because I wanted to find out how the practitioner had healed me so quickly. Her reply was simply a statement from Science and Health: "Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual,—neither in nor of matter,—and the body will then utter no complaints" (p. 14). This experience has continued to be a great blessing to me.
The same practitioner also healed me of a seizure I experienced while at work. She was called to my side, and her prayers restored my health immediately. Since that day, some eighteen years ago, I have never experienced another seizure, even though they had been regular occurrences in my life up to that time.
