I was helping my wife with some cleanup work in our garden. We have a path in the garden made of concrete paving blocks that are half buried in the ground, but stick up about one inch above the ground. These blocks have very sharp edges. I was carrying a basket of debris when I lost my balance and fell over backward onto this path. Instantly, as I was falling, I thought, "There are no accidents in God's universe." My back ached sorely. A block had also cut a long gash in my arm. I continued to pray silently to understand that there could be no sensation in matter, and that I am the perfect image and likeness of God.
I continued
to pray silently to
understand that
I am the perfect
image and likeness
of God.
Immediately the back pain ceased. I got up and dusted myself off. Then I prayed with "the scientific statement of being" from Science and Health (see p. 468). A passage from First John in the Bible (see 3:1-3) was also very helpful. Then I went into the house to clean up my arm, which was bleeding profusely.
