A friend made what she believed to be a routine correction to an electronic document prior to having it sent to a company's clientele. She didn't notice, as she should have, that in the process of making the correction, the word processing program deleted text from a different portion of the same document. So the document, containing a major error, went out to hundreds of people.
To say that she was upset with herself is an understatement. The mistake had been made; the document had been printed and sent; and some clients had already received it and were upset with the error. As with other, perhaps more serious mistakes, there was no turning back.
No, but there is always starting afresh. That's what came to thought as I saw my friend feeling pretty low. A fresh start is possible right away, not just when the mistake is finally such old news that it's forgotten. We talked briefly, and later she mentioned that she felt much better.
