GETTING STARTED in the public practice of Christian Science

Keeping the flame alive

I felt the most important thing I could do with the rest of my life was to become an effective healer and be available to the public.

From the July 1999 issue of The Christian Science Journal

If you had told me as recently as five years ago that I would be a full-time Christian Science practitioner within a few short years, I would have told you, "No way." I had plans for my life—big plans. They involved fame, success, money—the works.

I had plans
for my life—
big plans.

One element of my rebirth from corporate shark to Christian healer was a physical difficulty that forced me to pray more for myself, instead of leaning so much on a practitioner to heal me. I had to go back to what I'd studied in Primary class instruction and learn all over again how to give Christian Science treatment and how to heal. For the first time I was sincerely putting into practice what I'd learned in class. When the physical healing came, it was clearly a result of increased spiritual understanding.
