The Signs are Unmistakable. More and more people are hungering for something beyond the emptiness of materialism. They're intuitively searching for a higher source of satisfaction and for a reliable, spiritually based method of caring for themselves. The article featured on this month's cover, "Taking good care of the body," shows that devoting thought to an understanding of God and His care restores health and maintains it.
Interestingly, many seekers are questioning the role of church, the institution that has traditionally been thought of as providing spiritual answers. This month's "Ideas" feature shares some insights into what church is—or should be—all about, and what makes it vital to humanity's spiritual progress and well-being. And a feature called "Rediscovering the New Testament Church" reports on a minister's views about the nature of worship and true fellowship in churches. This issue also contains a report on the 1999 Annual Meeting of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston.
It's our hope that this and every issue of the Journal convey something of the spirituality, healing, and profound love that express God's care for every aspect of our lives and that are at the heart of what church is truly all about.
