Flu symptoms vanish

From the September 1999 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It was a Friday afternoon at the end of the term, and final exams were to take place the next week, when I appeared to come down with the flu. I was not only uncomfortable as a result of the condition, but I also felt unable to start studying for my exams, which I was quite concerned about doing well on. My immediate choice was to turn to God in prayer. I called my parents, and they agreed to pray with me, but my father suggested I call a Christian Science practitioner for treatment. New to the area, I got out a copy of the Journal and looked up the telephone number of a practitioner who lived nearby. When I called, she agreed to pray with me.

What I recall from both conversations is the idea that the belief of an epidemic which seemed to be going around at the time, was something that God did not create. Consequently, it was not able to affect me or any other individual, as we are all His children and under His care. This idea of not just praying for myself but for the community and all mankind, as well, about this belief dominated my thought. Through the evening I continued to pray with the idea that God is All and that He never made a disease or a contagious belief or a discordant experience.

Late into the evening, one moment the pain and other symptoms were present, and the next they had vanished completely. I was free! I was overjoyed at the healing, and in preparation for the next day of studying I fell peacefully asleep. I was grateful to know that nothing could keep me from my right work of preparing for my exams.
