An artist asks God for help

She loses her job, but gains new freedom.

From the December 2001 issue of The Christian Science Journal

An artist's depiction of angels often shows them as human forms with feathery wings, soaring above and around us. I am an artist. I've never painted angels, but if I found it was necessary to illustrate them, I can't think of a better way. Because, while I've never seen one, I have certainly felt comforted under their "sheltering wings.' One of the psalms in the Bible assures us, "For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways." Ps. 91:11.

In the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy describes angels in this way: "God's thoughts passing to man; spiritual intuitions, pure andperfect; the inspiration of goodness, purity, and immortality, counteracting all evil, sensuality, and mortality." Science and Health, p. 581. I am often comforted with the knowledge that angels are near me, protecting and guiding, and helping me along the rough pathways in my life.

I knew God would help me over the hurdles I might face without my accustomed paycheck.
