Case settled out of court just before Christmas

Settlement, justice, and the role of prayer

I was called for jury duty, and the timing couldn't have been more inconvenient. Christmas was just a few weeks away, and I had a lot to get done. But I went willingly, appreciating the need for each citizen's participation in the judicial system.

The case I was assigned to was a medical malpractice suit. The disputing parties had been in bitter contention for seven years, and the potential jurors were told there was no longer any possibility of settlement. The case was going to trial, and I was the final juror selected.
