This statement of Mary Baker Eddy's has been very important in my life: "We live in an age of Love's divine adventure to be All-in-all" (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 158). A growing understanding that I am an integral part of that divine adventure has piloted me unerringly through some wonderful experiences over many years.
When my dear wife passed on suddenly some ten years ago, I was able to carry on living on my own in the lovely home and garden we had established together. In the winter of 1999, however, unexpected difficulties developed. Among them was a persistent problem that affected my mobility and made it very hard for me to care for myself and maintain a large garden.
I prayed to be shown more of Love's divine adventure and my part in it. This led me to take actions I would not normally have considered. I moved to a beautiful, spacious apartment. To move there, I was required to have a health checkup by a local doctor. This revealed that I had high blood pressure and indications of diabetes that he felt were urgently in need of medical treatment.
