Freed from smoking

From the April 2001 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I HAVE HAD some wonderful healings. I was a smoker for 51 years, and although I had long yearned to be free of this habit, I could not seem to overcome it. Eventually I was smoking three packs a day and had become very alarmed at the sores and lumps that were developing in my mouth. Recently, I had been praying day and night for several days from the depths of my heart with the help of a practitioner. I remember thinking in the wee hours of one particular morning, "Dear God, I don't want to live if I have to keep smoking." When I woke up later that morning, the craving for cigarettes was completely gone, and it has not returned. Prayer also removed my desire for alcohol.

My craving for cigarettes was completely gone.the pain disappeared.

In the fall of 1999, I woke up about 5:30 one morning unable to move the right side of my body. When I tried to get out of bed, I fell to the floor. My wife, who was already up and in a different room, heard the thump and ran to my aid. She helped me back to bed and immediately called a Christian Science practitioner, who spoke to me briefly on the phone and began praying right away. Within a few minutes, feeling began to return to my fingers and toes, and within four hours I was able to move freely. I rejoiced to be able, with springing step, to go up and down the stairs with no weakness whatsoever. The next day I was able to load three truckloads of tin and steel by hand for a scrap mental company with complete freedom of movement.
