Thankful for many blessings

From the April 2001 issue of The Christian Science Journal

IN THE LATE 1980s my husband came in close contact with a Christian Scientist friend, who happened to be his colleague as well. During this time my husband started attending Sunday services conducted by Christian Science Society, Chandigarh, and my son attended Sunday School. This was the turning point in our lives, which ultimately led us all to study and practice Christian Science.

I had undergone two surgical operations, one at the time of my son's birth, and another an appendix operation. During my second pregnancy, whenever I went to my family doctor for regular examinations, she would always mention the possibility of surgery at the time of the second delivery. But because my husband and I were now reading Science and Health and were also attending the Sunday services, my husband suggested that I talk to a Christian Science practitioner.

Both of us visited the practitioner, and she assured us that my husband and I could confidently identify both the expected baby and me as "the image and likeness" of God, as the Bible says we all are. I kept on reading Science and Health throughout the pregnancy. I read the description of children in the book, part of which refers to themas "the spiritual thoughts and representatives of Life, Truth, and Love" (p. 582). Science and Health also says, "Whatever reflects Mind, Life, Truth, and Love, is spiritually conceived and brought forth . . ." (p. 303).
