As Magritte illustrated in so many of his paintings, treacherous images are counterfeits of what's real. Sometimes, though, they look so real that we're fooled into believing whatever they're projecting on the canvas of our lives, including our body. But we don't have to accept or be afraid of these projections. The more constructive course of action is to turn away from the body toward God, who is absolutely All. Images of illness, injury, incapacity, are upside down pictures of what's really going on. We can turn those images right side up.
My friend Charlotte had an interesting experience that illustrates this point. She and another friend were on vacation. They went out for a bite to eat before settling into a hotel for the evening. That night, Charlotte fell violently ill. Her friend was particularly concerned because Charlotte was going in and out of consciousness, yet she respected Charlotte's desire to appeal to God for help and supported her in that.
The next morning, Charlotte called a Christian Science healer, who assured her that despite the picture of illness and pain, she was actually safe with God that very moment. Nothing could invade or alter her perfect spiritual identity. The practitioner went on to say that since God is the sole intelligence, the only Mind, of the universe, He was Charlotte's actual and only real Mind. So the frightening image being projected on her body couldn't trick her into thinking it was true. Her thoughts came straight from God. Charlotte accepted these truths, and within a short while bolted straight up in bed, completely healed. And she felt no aftereffects or lingering symptoms whatsoever.
