Faith and 'the art of motorcycle maintenance'

It's not the amount of faith, but where you put it, that matters.

From the June 2001 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Drip a small amount of lubricant along stretch of motorcycle tread. If that piece of tread meets a slick roadway while cornering, the lubricant won't improve a thing and may do some harm. Drip the same small amount into the chain, where it belongs, and it will help keep the chain humming smoothly, and bike and biker rolling safely, for hundreds of miles. The amount of lubricant is not so important. Even a few drops will do. The placement is all-important.

Faith is a bit like that. You don't need a lot of it. But where you put it makes a big difference.

Consider a few unconnected statements you might come across in the newspaper: "Our missile defense system is the most overwhelming on earth. I have full faith in it as a deterrent."
