DISCOVERING SCIENCE AND HEALTH AND ITS AUTHOR

'I knew I could count on . . . Science and Health'

From the February 2002 issue of The Christian Science Journal

From around the world, new and long-time readers of Science and Health continue to write the Publisher, with hearts full of gratitude, to tell about the impact the message of this book has had on their lives. Here are a few examples:

MY MOTHER GAVE ME my first copy of Science and Health in 1937. I still have it. During the Korean War, I was stationed aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard. The one other Christian Scientist aboard and I held services every Sunday that we could, and occasionally others would come to listen.

The first time I remember Science and Health helping me was when we had been at sea for over 40 days. During that time, I had a large cavity in a tooth that started to ache. I was afraid to go to the dentist aboard the ship because I did not want to lose the tooth. The pain was intense. I knew I could always count on the truth in Science and Health to help me, so I found a little-used companionway, sat on the cold steel floor, and started reading the chapter "Christian Science Practice." As I read, the pain vanished, and I continued to read with joy to the end. I never again felt a twinge of pain from that tooth.
