A call to Annual Meeting

From the March 2002 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Annual Meeting provides an extraordinary opportunity to gather together as a Church family — as a worldwide congregation. It's a time for all of us to think more deeply about what our membership means and what The Mother Church stands for in our lives and in the world.

As Clerk of The Mother Church, it is my happy duty to extend an official invitation to members and their families to attend Annual Meeting, which this year will be held on Monday, June 3. The meeting will focus on Mary Baker Eddy in her "true light, and life." L07433, letter to Edward A. Kimball, October 15, 1893. As many readers of the Journal already know, there will be additional programs during the days following Annual Meeting. These will include a special orientation on The Mary Baker Eddy Library for the Betterment of Humanity and preview tours of the Library; opportunities to read and hear previously unpub lished writings by or about Mrs. Eddy; workshops on Manual- based activities that illustrate Mrs. Eddy's Church design; and programs specifically planned for children and young people.

We have already heard from several thousand people, so we know that this is going to be a well-attended meeting. It's a wonderful opportunity for our Church family to gather together, to be inspired, and to gain insights that will enable us to put the design of this Church into action — to respond in ever more compassionate and loving ways to the crying needs of humanity in this new century.
