Research programs support the Library's vision

From the March 2002 issue of The Christian Science Journal

is the manager of program development for The Mary Baker Eddy Library for the Betterment of Humanity. He speaks here about two of the Library's research programs — "American Women in Religious Leadership" and "Spirituality and Health."

Our RESEARCH PROGRAMS grew out of the increasing interest in Mrs. Eddy and her impact on world thought. They were developed in cooperation with leading scholars in each field and offer new opportunities for a wider public to appreciate Mrs. Eddy's ideas and achievements as both a religious leader and a pioneer in the field of spirituality and health.

IN RECENT YEARS, there has been an explosion of interest in the field of spirituality and health by the general public as well as by the federal government, private foundations, and university researchers. Both popular magazines and scholarly journals cover the subject regularly, and several new publications — including Spirituality and Health, Science & Advances, and Journal of Religion and Health — are entirely dedicated to the field.
