Christ: for all times, all people, all places

From the January 2003 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Last fall, senior producer for the Christian Science Sentinel—Radio Edition, talked with several people about the presence of Christ in their lives. At the time of this interview, the annual Christmas shopping rite was upon them, but they were all eager to bring out the fact that the Christ is always present throughout the holidays—and always.

Margaret Rogers: As a Christian, my strongest associations with Christ are with the life of Jesus. And yet one of the most important things that I'm learning about Christ is that it is universal, an eternal idea that existed before Jesus, and exists now, and in all times, places, and cultures. I continually ask myself, "What is that comforting message of Christ that comes to everyone in every place?" And to me that message us that each of us, like Jesus, is the perfect spiritual concept of God. Through all time, this comforting idea, or message, has been: "You are the child, the perfect idea, of this infinite perfection we call 'God.'" And to me, Jesus was the messenger behind that idea. He was the one who brought the message that each of us has a perfect, spiritual nature.

Michael Pabst: Just as Margaret said, it also means a great deal to me to have that comforting influence be so tangible, so present in our lives. To me, that's a divine influence—the infinite Spirit that speaks to everyone. To me it means, in particular, two things: the one is clarity, and the other is power.
